Areas We Serve: Online Therapy Throughout California
Affordable Telehealth Therapy for Every Corner of California, from Major Cities to Rural Communities
California is vast, diverse, and profoundly unequal when it comes to mental health access. In Los Angeles and San Francisco, residents can choose from thousands of therapists. In rural counties, there may be only a handful serving populations spread across hundreds of square miles. Some communities have no licensed therapists at all.
This disparity is a core reason Sentio Counseling Center exists.
As a California nonprofit, we provide online therapy to clients in all 58 counties, every major metropolitan area, and the small towns and rural communities that traditional mental health services often overlook. Our telehealth model means that whether you live in downtown San Diego or a remote community in Modoc County, you can access the same quality care at the same affordable rates.
Bringing Therapy to Underserved California
The Mental Health Access Gap
California faces a severe shortage of mental health providers, but that shortage is not distributed evenly. Urban areas have relatively more therapists per capita, though even there demand often exceeds supply. Rural and semi-rural regions face acute shortages that leave residents with few or no local options.
The California Health Care Foundation has documented significant gaps in behavioral health access across much of the state. Many counties have been designated as Mental Health Professional Shortage Areas. Residents of these communities often must travel an hour or more to see a therapist, wait months for an available appointment, or simply go without care.
This is unacceptable. Mental health struggles do not respect geographic boundaries. Depression, anxiety, relationship problems, trauma, and grief occur everywhere. People in Susanville deserve the same access to support as people in Santa Monica.
Our Commitment to Underserved Communities
Sentio Counseling Center was built to address this gap. Online therapy eliminates distance as a barrier. A client in Alturas can meet with their therapist as easily as a client in Anaheim. A family in Needles has the same access as a family in Newport Beach.
We specifically commit to serving:
Rural communities with few or no local mental health providers
Small towns and mid-size cities outside major metropolitan areas
Agricultural regions where work schedules and transportation challenges make traditional therapy difficult
Communities where cost barriers compound geographic barriers
Spanish-speaking and Mandarin-speaking Californians who cannot find bilingual therapists locally
By combining telehealth delivery with sliding scale fees starting at $15, we remove the two biggest obstacles, geography and cost, simultaneously.
Therapy in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese Across California
Language Access Is Health Access
California is home to millions of residents whose primary language is Spanish or Mandarin Chinese. Finding a therapist who speaks your language is challenging in any city. Outside major metropolitan areas, it can be nearly impossible.
Expressing emotions, describing experiences, and building therapeutic trust all depend on language. Therapy in a second language is possible but rarely optimal. Nuance gets lost. Cultural context goes unexplained. The therapeutic relationship develops more slowly.
Sentio offers therapy in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese to clients throughout California. Whether you live in a city with a large Spanish-speaking or Chinese-speaking community or in a region where you are one of few speakers of your language, you can work with a therapist who communicates fluently in the language most natural to you.
Our bilingual services are available at the same sliding scale rates as all our therapy, starting at $15 per session. This combination of language access and affordability is rare in the mental health landscape.
